家园 哪裡是“罵何洩憤”?

看到兄寫到何炳棣被柯嬌燕在腳註中罵且洩憤,自己沒有印象,就找來書查閱一下。柯嬌燕在A Translucent Mirror一書中共有兩個腳註提到何炳棣:

1. For a diatribe on this see Ho Ping-ti, "In Defense of Sinicization," which argues that since assimilation and acculturation have happened in China and its environs in historical times, "sinicization" is proven. Not much of the current critique of sinicization is addressed by the essay. "Sinicization" is simultaneously a characterization of and an explanation for cultural change, and accepting it entails accepting an ideology of historical causation to which Ho subscribes (attributing it to weaknesses in non-Chinese cultures, strengths in Chinese culture, and the "magnanimous spirit" of the ancient Chinese). The facts would license others to dissent. (引自p. 13n23)

2. The emperor is aware of but dismisses the disturbing effect that Mencius' statement had had upon scholars over a millennium. Ho Ping-ti has called the classical passage " startlingly iconoclastic," indeed, "so iconoclastic that for ages it has baffled Chinese classical commentators" (see "The Chinese Civilization: A Search for the Roots of Its Longevity"). Above quotation from the Mengzi follows Ho, 553, who follows Legge, trans., The Works of Mencius, 316. In 1998 Ho returned to this

passage, still following Legge, but now finds it not the least startling and interprets it to reflect the broad-mindedness of the "ancient Sinitic world" (see "In Defense of Sinicization," 129). As I have suggested earlier, the passage seems to be about leadership (Chapter 5, n 71). (引自p. 303n32)

個人覺得雖然觀點有別,但還看不出這樣的寫法是“罵何洩憤”,可能兄因喜愛何炳棣(我自己也是何炳棣的追隨者,所以不喜歡韓明士。郝若貝晚年思想轉變,所以還能贏得我的尊敬)而反感柯嬌燕吧?
