主题:关于拉美化:“中国模式”有多独特 -- 土拨鼠yuanap
It's about the guts to actually follow through one's dreams. I know many Americans who give up much more profitable careers to pursue their dreams, not just dreams on science or techs, dreams on art, on many other things, basically one's own personal fulfillment, as opposed to simply working for the sake for making a million dollars.
A professor I knew who got his PhD from MIT, got many offers from industry that promised him 6 figure starting salary, decided to decline all of them to take up a postdoc position in order to pursue an back then, still elusive, academia career. Just by talking to him, you'd know this guy is really really really enthusiastic about what he's doing, something can't be said about ALL the Chinese professors I know, even "Da niu" professors.
You need the passion, the gut and the ball to pursue one's own dream to really be one of a kind success story. There are many people in China who are like that. But percentage wise, still far less Chinese are willing to forgo lucrative career for a dream. Before China can close that gap, China can't close the gap in science.
