The airplane is already in landing approach as such the height is an important element to be maintained in a specified window. While autopilot may dive to regain airspeed, it could have caused the plane to decent lower than the minimum height that allows a safe landing.

Therefore, it is undertandable that the PIC wanted to pull up, back out from dive. Note that he also added thrust which theoritically could increase airspeed without changing attidude of the plane.

The real problem is when did he add thrust and by how much. The sequence should be throttle and then stick. And if he had added enough thrust to compensate the change of attitude, the plane should not have stalled.
