Dixie Chicks"南方女孩"演唱组由两个大美女Emily Robison和Martie Maguire姐妹, 加上没那么美的主唱Natalie Maines组成. 她们原本乡村音乐出身, 来自德克萨斯. 与显得很偶像青春的名字相反, 他们是群很有实力有思想有个性的艺人, 美人姐妹虽嗓音一般, 但十八样乐器样样精通, 大部分的歌都自己创作. 小组在几年前就已很有成就, 算得上乡村音乐Top 10行列.

Dixie Chicks成为许多人心目中的英雄始于2003年. 在伊战开始前一两个月伦敦举行的一场音乐会中, 主唱Natalie告诉观众"我们挺为得克萨斯出了小布什而感到惭愧的." 此举在乡村音乐听众中有如捅了马蜂窝一般, 抗议谩骂威胁接踵而来. 其他艺人遇到这种事都会以商业利益为重, 小小道歉一把找个台阶下去. Dixie Chicks则显出铮铮铁骨, "我曾想过道歉, 收回冒犯布什言论, 但一想这不成了出尔反尔, 布什不喜欢这样" (2004年选战中布什给克里安了顶出尔反尔的大帽子).

之后几年Dixie Chicks一下子从乡村音乐电台, 电视台, 各种活动中消失, 众多乡村歌手站出来为Dixie Chicks说话的只有Vince Gill一个人. 少数电台播过一两次她们的歌, 结果是一大堆抗议信和广告抵制的威胁(有赐于互联网的便利啊). 大量的谩骂威胁直接送到Dixie Chicks自己那儿, 诸如夹着子弹的"Shut Up And Sing"的信件.

英雄们的回答是2006年推出的新专辑, 主打歌Not Ready to Make Nice.

专辑推出当周, 马上升到流行音乐排行榜第一和乡村音乐排行榜第一, 一周内到金唱片, 到现在已拿到好几轮白金. Dixie Chicks在乡村音乐听众中丢掉的人气无法挽回, 但她们在乡村音乐之外得到了大量新支持者, 她们的风格也从乡村转到摇滚民谣加乡村.

说起摇滚, 很多歌手抹白脸, 弄蛇状舌头, 舞台上摔吉他, 疯疯癫癫又踢又打, 作出副愤怒无比的样子, 但别人实在搞不清愤怒从何而来. 如果你有时间看着我的帖子, 静静听一遍她们的演唱, 你会体会真正的愤怒, 倔强, 与刚强. 约翰-克里04年若有她们一半的骨气, 现在的总统就不会是那话都说不清的布什了.
