下面是《旧约》上讲的，据说，以扫就是阿拉伯人的祖先。这梁子是胎里带的。

以撒因他妻子不生育，就为她祈求耶和华；耶和华应允他的祈求，他的妻子利百加就怀了孕。(创世记 25:21 和合本)

Isaac prayed to the Lord on behalf of his wife because she was childless. The Lord answered his prayer, and his wife Rebekah became pregnant.(Genesis 25:21 NET)

孩子们在她腹中彼此相争，她就说：“若是这样，我为什么活着呢（或译：我为什么如此呢）？”她就去求问耶和华。(创世记 25:22 和合本)

But the children struggled inside her, and she said, “If it is going to be like this, I’m not so sure I want to be pregnant!” So she asked the Lord,(Genesis 25:22 NET)

耶和华对她说：“两国在你腹内；两族要从你身上出来。这族必强于那族；将来大的要服侍小的。”(创世记 25:23 和合本)

and the Lord said to her,

“Two nations are in your womb,

and two peoples will be separated from within you.

One people will be stronger than the other,

and the older will serve the younger.”(Genesis 25:23 NET)

生产的日子到了，腹中果然是双子。(创世记 25:24 和合本)

When the time came for Rebekah to give birth, there were twins in her womb.(Genesis 25:24 NET)

先产的身体发红，浑身有毛，如同皮衣，他们就给他起名叫以扫（就是有毛的意思）。(创世记 25:25 和合本)

The first came out reddish all over, like a hairy garment, so they named him Esau.(Genesis 25:25 NET)

随后又生了以扫的兄弟，手抓住以扫的脚跟，因此给他起名叫雅各（就是抓住的意思）。利百加生下两个儿子的时候，以撒年正六十岁。(创世记 25:26 和合本)
