1.People become lazy. Easy life, no hard work ethics.
2.One industry becomes too dominant in political life, bad for democracy because it is hard to build check and balance.
3.Make itself too attractive for foreign interference.
4.Too close to America--colonization becomes easier and less costly.
When America became No.1 industrialized nation in the West Hemisphere, the No.1 priority is to control resources in this hemisphere. It can not control Eastern Hemisphere, because it was all divided by European powers.
Japan: overpopulation with little natural resource--nobody wants to colonize that piece of shit land.
China is similar case. Japan only wanted the Don Bei.
