Make sure the SATA controller mode in BIOS setup is selected as Compatable mode, not AHCI mode.Windows XP does not support AHCI mode, that is why T400 boots Windows XP failed 100%.If you have done that,try to do it again.If still failed,make sure the new SATA HDD is compatable with T400,maybe a new hard disk firmware need to be updated for this new HDD.
