I agree with you. However, it is hard to believe that so many well-educated, smart people read the book and believed in him. One of my best friends in the college, who was also a CCP member, was converted to a FLG believer. I swear he read a lot of books before he read ZFL and we had a lot of discussions on various topics those years. He was definitely a knowledgable person with independent thoughts. I never figure out why he could believe in that sh*t.

Not all of them. In USA, I knew only one person who believed in FLG. Coincidently, she is the wife of my friend mentioned above. She came for her Master's degree and worked in US for a couple of years before she returned China. She was a FLG believer before she came to US. In US she was dragged to the FLG events and impacted by their newspaper DJY. When we chatted she mentioned of some typical opinions of oversea FLG members. I seriously criticized her though she was only my friend's wife. (I can criticize my friend but not his wife.) According to my observation, she has no intention of seeking for any benefit from it. She was just too simple and naive, and she truly believe in those liers. I felt sad for her. She is a nice person, really nice. I wish she realize her wrong belief and enjoy her life.
