Not everything in an IRA is tax sheltered. There are many exceptions such as MLP and Collectibles.GLD is considered collectiable. Though IRA allows you to invest in collecitbles, there is no tax relieves on collectibles whatsoever.Call IRS's 1-800 number they will explain it to you.
