Montreal? or in French, Mont-Royal?
In the middle square of Montreal, there was one plate that marked the place where French conquers chopped off the head of the Indian tribe. EMPIRE WAS NEVER CONQUERED THROUGH BLAH BLAH PERSUASION.
Do not be so naive. In sum: Frenchmen were too few and too weak to be brutal to the Indians.
France's true problem: the king only allowed devout French Catholics to settle there in New France, but the New France/Quebec is too cold for average Frenchmen. Most men did not want to go. There were few women there, and King Louis 14 had to send many orphan girls(800+)to New France to maintain population growth. They were called King's daughters, or "filles du roi". Today's Quebecois are all offsprings of them.
Despite all the effort, by middle-18th century, French America was much larger than English America IN LAND SIZE, but the population ratio was 1 to 20.

WITH SO FEW FRENCHMEN THERE, the American Indians were the crucial man power which would determine the outcome of this empire fight. Therefore, Frenchmen formed strong alliance with different tribes northern of the St. Lawrence river. While the British formed alliance with a few Indian tribes on the south shore.
Of course, after Britons won the French Indian war, the "allies" were no longer useful.
Keep in mind, all the hungry/poor Englishmen/Scottish/German/Irish came to North America not for harmony. They came for farmable land. When the Treaty of Paris blocked their pursuit of land, they fought the whole British empire. And then naturally, they would put guns to the local Indians when they won independence. George Washington was the first master planner for the systematically elimination of Indians west/east of Mississipi River.
No Europeans have a clean record in the expansion of the American empire. Do not just blame Britons. Frenchmen and Germans also had their blood in hand.
BTW, There were protestant Christian Frenchmen who actually deserted their own country and joined the New England side. George Washginton 's grandma was of Huguenot origin (French protestant Christian). This shows how stupid the French were: the bloody suppression the King deployed against Huguenot sent many Frenchmen into the British camp.
Hi, Li, BTW, I am waiting for your 3rd episode on French-British diplomacy. Are you going to post it?
