《纽约时报》原来对此的评价是这句话表述不清。既可以认为是说川普可以原本终止对原国家安全顾问弗林的调查，甚至赦免他。也可以认为是说川普可以终止对自己的调查，并赦免自己。但后一种可能性太小，历史上没有一个美国总统赦免过自己。

历史总是有第一个吃螃蟹的。今天川普发表推特说“正如众多的法律专家所说，我绝对拥有赦免自己的权力。但我为啥要这么干？我又没干坏事。与此同时，由十三名被愤恨冲昏头脑的民主党人炮制的没完没了的政治迫害进入了中期选举期。” （As has been stated by numerous legal scholars, I have the absolute right to PARDON myself, but why would I do that when I have done nothing wrong?
