Life in Canada is much better. When we live in North America for too long time, we do not see the harsh side of life there.

Do not forget in Canada,

1. there is CMHC which subsizes indirectly your housing ownership.

2. there is local rent control which controls annual rent increase therefore, there is only limited increase in rent in the last 5 years. Whenever you are not happy with landlord, you can challenge them in the rental control commission.

3. Gov. provides OLD AGE pay, match your kid's education fund, provide free medical insurance, low-income-household subsidy, parental insurance for parents with babies, unemployment insurance...

Of course, we both do not enjoy and we on the contrary, are paying for those benefits through heavy taxes, but at least your Canadian provincial/federal gov. are adopting all kinds of policies helping the poor and disadvantaged people in the society.

You have to understand most of them are not available back in China.

Most of my friends live in Shanghai. Their monthly salary is above 10k and they are the middle-class group in China and many of them own their own apartments. Some have two or three ones.

They all complained about the real estate policy in the last 5 years. Even they sense the danger of the crazy real estate bubble...
