This is called arranged marriage... I used to have an India American roommate, who said that his marriage would be an arranged one. Nevertheless he showed pretty high interest in cute girls he saw in Fiesta. He complained to me he cannot make any decision on his marriage. So in India, parents still have considerable control on decisions made by kids in the life.
