A developer decided to count the number of lines of source code modules that make up the core of the KDE project, as its recent officially distributed version 4.3.2. This utility used sloccount by David A. Wheeler, who threw these interesting results:

* Are 4,273,291 lines of code in 20 modules.

* The three larger modules are: kdelibs, kdebase and kdepim (in that order).

* Scheduling all that code would cost US $175,364,716 (estimated).

But of course these numbers do not include all applications which are not part of its standard distribution, they are written by third party developers especially for KDE.

In comparison, the same utility sloccount previously been used to calculate the total lines of code in the Linux Kernel in 10 million.
