家园 美国生命科学领域的工资指南

刚收到一个e-mail,贴到这里,供各位参考。

As you know, you participated in our survey of income in the life

sciences earlier this year. Since you were a participant, we

e-mailed you some salary data earlier (covering income by job

level and by region. Here is the second in this informational

e-mail series.

Income of life scientists varies widely by metropolitan area.

The five highest-paying metropolitan areas are:

Wilmington, DE - $92,000

Middlesex-Essex Counties, MA - $90,698

Long Beach/South Bay, CA - $88,000

Westchester County, NY - $85,000

San Jose, CA - $85,000

The five lowest-paying metropolitan areas are:

Jacksonville, FL - $48,215

Tucson, AZ - $51,000

Austin, TX - $51,176

Virginia Beach/Norfolk, VA - $51,900

Portland, OR - $53,000

By general type of organization, life scientists in start-up

firms fare best ($80,500), followed closely by those in

publicly-held firms ($80,000). Far behind are those in

governmental organizations, privately-held firms, and nonprofit

organizations ($66,000, $64,000, and $63,983 respectively).

Income of life scientists varies more widely by specific industry

or service of the organization. The five highest-paying areas

are:

Consultant (independent) - $106,500

Pharmaceutical Manufacturing - $93,150

Consulting Firm - $90,000

Laboratory/Medical Instruments/Supplies Manufacturing - $85,000

Chemical Manufacturing - $84,000

The five lowest-paying types of employer are:

Primary School - $40,000

Secondary School - $45,400

University Hospital - $51,000

College/University (granting only 2-3 year degrees) - $51,823

College/University (granting only B.A./B.S. or B.A./B.S. and

M.A./M.S.) - $52,375 and $53,000 respectively

Health Care Facility - $53,000

Although the correlation is not strong, there is a tendency for

life scientists to make more in larger organizations and less in

smaller ones.

On the other hand, there is an almost-perfect correlation between

total years of professional experience and income of life

scientists, ranging from $34,000 for those with under one year of

experience to $103,000 for those with 30 years of experience or

more.

Income in the life sciences varies even more widely by level of

education. In descending order, the income of holders of the

highest paying doctorates are:

Medical Doctorate - $138,500

Dental Doctorate - $91,943

Veterinary Medicine Doctorate - $84,000

Pharmaceutical Doctorate - $82,688

Science/Engineering Doctorate - $74,700

Non-Science/Non-Engineering Doctorate - $71,500

Interestingly enough, almost all holders of these degrees PLUS

another doctorate made less than if they did not have a second

doctorate (the one exception is those who hold two

science/engineering doctorates). However, as shown in the

complete report, this is explainable as they have had tended to

have less experience since their highest-level degree.

Income is lowest for those life scientists with the following

levels of education:

Some college but no degree - $40,000

Two B.A./B.S. degrees - $44,400

A.A./A.S. degree - $46,500

Bachelor-level science/engineering degree - $48,600

Bachelor-level non-science/engineering degree - $50,606

Masters-level science/engineering degree - $53,346

Masters-level non-science/engineering degree - $60,000
