LED的作用是背光光源，而且进行性能对比的对象是CCFL（冷阴极荧光灯），CCFL就是当前一般TFT-LCD所使用的背光源。
Sony Bravia XBR KDL-46XBR8 页面的 Product Description 中也明确说了：
In addition to Full HD 1080p, this XBR-8 Series TV features TRILUMINOS RGB Dynamic LED backlight which produces breathtaking images with enhanced color purity that result in deep blacks and bright whites with startling depth and exceptional shadow detail.
所以，Sony的名字更准确，LED LCD TV
