In PHOTOSHOP, go to

File->Preferences->Memory & Image Cache

set the Physical Memory Usage to as many as you want and as many as you can. On the same window, you would find out what is the Available RAM.

PHTOSHOP has a problem that once you open and close your images, the memory used by already closed image would not be cleaned, i.e., they cannot be used by other images. So, you have to exit PHOTOSHOP to clean up all memory used in PHOTOSHOP, then fire PHTOSHOP again for new images.

I am not very sure if your problem is related to memory, but I am willing to help.
