Yuan definitely canchange to a safer place in the battle. But he knows his responsibility --to lead his troop to defend Beijing. If you can't understand Yuan's situation and his behavior, give you an opposite example: Wu Sangui----When Beijing is surrouded by enemy, We won't come back to defend Beijing.
