当NPR问他是否认为全球变暖是人类因该解决的问题时，他回答：“I have no doubt that … a trend of global warming exists. I am not sure that it is fair to say that it is a problem we must wrestle with. To assume that it is a problem is to assume that the state of Earth's climate today is the optimal climate, the best climate that we could have or ever have had and that we need to take steps to make sure that it doesn't change. First of all, I don't think it's within the power of human beings to assure that the climate does not change, as millions of years of history have shown. And second of all, I guess I would ask which human beings — where and when — are to be accorded the privilege of deciding that this particular climate that we have right here today, right now is the best climate for all other human beings. I think that's a rather arrogant position for people to take."

有意思的是，他承认全球在变暖，这挺不容易的。但是，他不认为这是我们必须解决的难题。因为他认为把解决全球变暖为己任的前提是假定变暖之前的气候是恒古铄今的最佳气候，他觉得首先人类没有让气候不变的能力，其次，让某一人决定某一特定时间特定地点的气候对全人类是最佳的，就显得有点傲慢了。

这第二个理由一看就是在狡辩了，作为国际警察，美国不是从来都把自己的意志强压与人吗？但我是知道火山冒冒气儿，大海打个嗝儿，排出的二氧化碳就比全中国一年的汽车尾气多！人类要想改变气候，还得在其它方面动脑筋。Maybe X-Men!
